Bios

• Devin Johnsen

  DVM

  Dr. Devin Johnsen attended Pomona College for her undergraduate degree in Biology. She then studied equine locomotion at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and received her Master's of Biological Sciences. She attended U.C. Davis for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2007. Dr. Johnsen worked in the East Bay at VCA Bay Area Animal Hospital for three years, before joining VCA Almaden Valley Animal Hospital in 2010. In her free time, she enjoys classic sci-fi films and spending time with Trillian, her extremely fluffy, black and white, broccoli eating cat.

• Alan Gross

  DVM

  Dr. Alan Gross was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri for his undergraduate degree. He attended the veterinary school at the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1975. Dr. Gross practiced in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Georgia before coming to California in 2007. He worked at VCA Mission San Jose Animal Hospital for 2 퉌_ years before coming to work here at VCA Almaden Valley Animal Hospital. Dr. Gross enjoys treating cats, dogs, pocket pets, rabbits, reptiles and amphibians. Outside of work, he spends his time training in Kung Fu, inline skating and fly fishing. He also shares his home with a wonderful black and white tuxedo cat named K.D.

• Heidi Stiehl

  DVM

  Dr. Heidi Stiehl received her undergraduate degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by her veterinary degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her veterinary internship at VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists. She is excited to join the team at VCA Almaden Valley Animal Hospital!. Dr. Stiehl's interested include canine and feline pediatrics, preventative and geriatrics medicine, neurology, dermatology, and emergency medicine. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Stiehl enjoys traveling, hiking, food & wine, spending time with family & friends, and her cats (Felix & Liesy), and her adorable dog Chloe.

• Katherine Mezan

  BVSc

  Dr. Kate Mezan grew up in New York. She completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, where she promptly fell in love with the Bay Area and California weather. Seeking an overseas adventure, she completed her veterinary degree at Massey University in New Zealand where she enjoyed the gorgeous outdoor scenery and rural lifestyle. Following veterinary school, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and suregery at the VCA Emergency Animal Hospital and Referral Center in San Diego, CA. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, horses and spending time with her husband, baby daughter and 2 four footed children. (Tasman the mixed breed dog and Lucretia the crazy Bengal cat.).
